Another Magic Circle force, but this time one providing a true global take on work. Linklaters have become the first Magic Circle firm to be permitted to operate in Chinese Law following a tie-up with a best friend firm in that jurisdiction. They also have an impressive 30 offices worldwide in all the major financial hubs. A trainee at Linklaters (whilst being one of one hundred) will be involved on the biggest deals happening in the world right now from day one. Trainees may find themselves inundated when completing the large amounts of admin work associated with these mammoth deals. Though in terms of quality of work and training, Linklaters is as good as it gets.
Like any firm with particular strengths, in this case in Banking and Corporate work, if a Linklaters trainee is looking to practice in more niche departments such as IP, they may be waiting a long time for that seat allocation.
Among a cohort of 100, trainees have been known to want to make a name for themselves out of the crowd. This has typically led to a more competitive environment at this firm than others. One which appears to be working though as Linklaters continues to be at the top of its game. Just a word of warning though, you may not find yourself to be friends with your colleagues at this firm.
